The Cyrillic inscription is the prayer to the Lifegiving Cross: "Кресту Твоему поклоняемся, Христе, честному хранителю мира, спасению нас, грешных" that means "We venerate Your Cross, Jesus, holy guardian of the world, the saviour of sinful us."
The prayer text on the back side is a fragment from the Exapostilarion Hymn of the Orthros of the Holy Cross: "Крест хранитель всея вселенныя, Крест красота Церкве, Крест царей держава, Крест верных утверждение, Крест Ангелов слава и демонов язва."
The translation is the following: "The Cross is the guardian of the Universe; the Cross is the beauty of the Church; the Cross is the might of kings; the Cross is the affirmation of the faithful; the Cross is the glory of angels and a plague to demons."
